How to Review Kanji & Sentences in Anki

Not sure of what is the best way to review/grade yourself on kanji/sentence reviews, or are looking for some tips, this is the place.

Start with Configuring Anki for RtK and make sure you have completed steps 1 & 2.

The next thing to know about Anki is how interval-multipliers work. You can change the interval-multiplier. However, I do not recommend changing the default interval values.

1	Again	Default Multiplier	0.0 days
2	Hard	Default Multiplier	0.3-0.5 days
3	Good	Default Multiplier	3.0-5.0 days
4	Easy	Default Multiplier	7.0-9.0 days

• Again or Hard shrinks the intervals-of-the-answers of your next review.
• Good or Easy grows the intervals-of-the-answers of your next review.

REVIEWING KANJI (RtK)
STEP 1: see the keyword
STEP 2: think about story
STEP 3: write the kanji (Note 1)
STEP 4: reveal answer & grade yourself

1 – Again – wrong, partially wrong, wrong primitives/keywords
2 – Hard – partially wrong, wrong primitives/keywords, shrink interval
3 – Good – correct
4 – Easy – correct

FOR FAILED & NEW CARDS
1 – Again – wrong
2 – Hard – correct

NOTE 1: Write each kanji, each time you review.

SENTENCES
STEP 1: see the question
STEP 2: read the sentence aloud (Note 1)
STEP 3: reveal answer
STEP 4: write out the kanji & grade yourself (Note 2)

1 – Again – wrong, partially wrong, wrong reading
2 – Hard – correct, want to shrink interval
3 – Good – correct (see Note 3)
4 – Easy – correct, all kanji from memory (Note 3)

NOTE 1: Read the sentence aloud as many times as it takes to say it fluently.
NOTE 2: Write only the kanji while looking at the reading.
NOTE 3: Do not let the interval get too large for sentences with kanji you cannot write from memory.

Lately I’ve been been completely ignoring the (4) – Easy button.
